A life update

Hey, I just wanted to check in and say hello.

How have you been?

The last few months have been about adjusting and finding a new rhythm in work and in life. I moved from Austin Texas, back to my hometown in southern Arizona. I also went from working as an in house designer to working from home for the same company. The adjustment has been strangely easy and difficult at the same time.

Sitting down to do work has been easy, but leaving my desk to take a break, or eat dinner away from the computer has been difficult. I always thought people were exaggerating when they said how easy it is to skip breaks, meals, and work work work. They weren’t joking!  I feel guilty and unproductive whenever I leave my desk. I’ve had to set alarms on my phone telling me when to take a break, and I’ve had to force myself to step away from the computer more than once.

Another difficulty I’ve been having with working from home is putting on an actual outfit instead of a t-shirt and shorts. For awhile I would wear jeans and a nice shirt, but it quickly became uncomfortable. What do you wear when you work from home?

The final difficulty I’ve been having is the lack of face to face contact. I currently work weekends and most weekdays from 1:30 to 10 pm which is a nice change from working 3:30 to midnight. The biggest issue is almost everything is closed by the time I get off work. I haven’t figured out how to have a face to face conversation with another human being beyond chatting it up with the cashier at stores.

Besides moving I rested. I stopped working on everything and I mean everything. I stopped working out. I stopped painting, doodling, and exercising. Instead I took some time to think about the last few years of my life and figure out my next moves. There’s many areas I want to do a complete overhaul on, and to be honest I’m feeling anxious about the changes. On the other side of the anxious feelings, I’m excited. A personal growth challenge is needed.

What have you been up to lately?
