4 self care tips to try when you work from home
A few months ago, I moved from Texas to Arizona and I took my news page designer job with me. Instead of getting dressed and driving to work each day, I now walk a few steps to my desk. This change has been nice, but one of the hardest adjustments has been not allowing a new working style affect my health. These are 4 steps I've been incorporating into my schedule to make working from home a little easier.
Make rules for sick days
If you have trouble taking sick days, try creating non-negotiable rules for when you must use them. For example, my personal rule is I have to call out if there’s vomiting involved.
Take care of your back and core
A few times a week take some time to do exercises specifically for your back and core. Strong abs and back will go a long way in helping reduce back pain from sitting at a desk day.
Create a routine
Create a routine to help you mentally prepare for work and wind down at the end of the day. Maybe take a 30 minute to 1 hour screen break each day before work, and take another screen free break after work.
Take breaks away from desk
Try not to take dinner, and regular breaks at your desk. In fact try not to skip taking these important breaks at all. Take a quick walk around your neighborhood or home, sit somewhere else and rest your eyes for a few minutes.
